As the Director of Operations & Controller of Echo Health Ventures, Charles helps manage the internal operations and investment portfolio management initiatives of the company and also supports the development, implementation, and delivery of Echo's strategic goals and initiatives. In addition, in managing outsourcing functions and key shared service relationships among Echo and its two parent organizations, Charles helps oversee the reporting to Echo's governance bodies and parent companies, the valuations of Echo's managed portfolios, the periodic accounting close process and production of financial statements and internal budgets and forecasts, and treasury and billing operations.
Prior to Echo, Charles spent eight years in New York, where he served as an Associate Director with Fitch Ratings in their Global Infrastructure and Project Finance group and then as a Senior Analyst in AIG Investments' Public Fixed Income Group. In these roles, Charles analyzed and monitored both publicly issued and privately placed debt transactions, ranging from not-for-profit health systems and higher education facilities to sports facility financings and startup transportation assets across the U.S., United Kingdom, and Latin America. Charles's prior work also involved developing and improving research frameworks and databases for internal peer comparisons and stress testing to enhance portfolio management and communication among crucial internal and external Fitch and AIG stakeholders.
Based in Echo's Durham office, Charles earned bachelor's degrees in English and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Outside the office, Charles enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and new son and cheering on his beloved Tar Heels.
